Summary:


  • Defines system vision, use case model survey, system requirements, system performance requirements, and assures compatibility of all physical, functional and program interfaces to optimize total system of systems and/or system architecture(s). 
  • Develops, maintains and identifies improvements for the planning, organization, implementation and monitoring of requirements management processes, tools, risk, issues, opportunity management and technology readiness assessment processes. 
  • Applies an interdisciplinary, collaborative approach to plan, design, develop and verify a life-cycle balanced system of systems and system solution(s).

 

Essential Duties:

  • Elicits requirements using interviews, document analysis, requirements workshops, storyboards, surveys, site visits, business process descriptions, use cases, scenarios, event lists, task and workflow analysis, and/or viewpoints.
  • Decomposes high-level business and user requirements into functional requirements, specified in an appropriate level of detail suitable for use by those who must base their work on the requirements.
  • Writes requirements/systems specifications according to standard templates, using natural language simply, clearly, unambiguously, and concisely.
  • Manages requirements traceability information and track requirements status throughout the project.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects.  Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
  • Participates in peer reviews and inspections of requirements/systems documents. Participates in peer reviews of work products derived from requirements specifications to ensure that the requirements are interpreted correctly.
  • Manages changes to baselined requirements through effective application of change control processes and tools.

Education/Experience:


Technical degree in a related field of study and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Applies extensive job practices, techniques, standards, principles, theories, and concepts. Has full knowledge of other related disciplines. Recognized as a job expert within the department/organization.
  • Provides technical solutions to complex problems that require ingenuity and creativity.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment. Completed work is reviewed for desired results from a relatively long-term perspective.
  • Guides the successful completion of aspects of major programs and may function in a project leadership role. Erroneous decisions or recommendations may result in failure to achieve major organizational objectives.
  • Represents the organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations.
